7 things you need to know about your ISBN

ISBN True or False

Part 2 of 3

4) Once my book is registered, I can go to the bowkerlink website and update my book listing myself.

False. The central registry is a private website. Only publishers have a password to edit or update book information. So if you need to update your book info, just contact me and I'll get it done for you.

5) Customers can easily find my book on bowkerlink's central website.

False. The only people who can search the central registry are subscribers to a service called "Books in Print", with a subscription cost of $1,000 per year. This means libraries, larger bookstores, etc.

Instead, a typical customer might find your book by using Google or Amazon.

6) If a bookstore, library, etc., finds my book on bowkerlink and wants to buy it, I'll get rush notification.

True. I will immediately contact you and/or provide your email address to any who contacts me through bowkerlink wanting to buy your book. My goal is to help you sell your books and make money

7) I've registered my book. Now the publishing is done and I'm ready for the next step.

True. Now is the time to start marketing your book.

Uh, marketing?

...But I don't know the first thing about marketing!

Don't worry. I actually think marketing is fun and I'll show you how to get on the right track.
