Voices of New Ireland: Kun and Nochi Wisdom emerges from a participatory project carried out between September 2022 and June 2023, in partnership with Langenia Primary School, involving students from grades 5 to 7 in three villages — Liedan (Kun people), and Langenia and Lossu II (Nochi people). The project combined a writing workshop, classroom research, and the collective creation of texts and illustrations about local stories, songs, landscapes, and knowledge. All materials were carefully validated and enriched by community elders, who acted as custodians of knowledge and co-authors of meaning, adding narratives, songs, and cultural corrections. The book proposes the integration of Indigenous knowledge into the school curriculum, envisioning education as inclusive and dialogical, recognizing differences and fostering the exchange of perspectives. Beyond celebrating cultural diversity, it contributes to safeguarding traditions — with particular attention to the Kun language, currently facing the risk of disappearance — and includes an Appendix detailing the workshop and writing process for teachers interested in replicating the initiative. Designed for both community and school use, the book aims to inspire similar projects in other schools and villages in New Ireland Province, valuing local heritage and reinforcing intergenerational bonds.
