VICTORIAN HANGOVER
Pages:218
Format:Paperback
Frances Roper (1899 - 1985) writes some unusual childhood memories of her first nineteen years. Born 6th December 1899, at the start of a new century, she finds herself in different situations where the past seems to want to hold her back.
Moving from Ealing in West London to the edge of the Forest of Dean, she recalls vividly the people and situations she encountered as she grew up.
Eventually Frances steps out into the brave new world of the 1920's.
Writing in the late 1940s, there is plenty of amusement, insightfulness of other people and a lively descriptive narrative to make this book both entertaining and edifying.
Judith her niece now publishes these memoirs some seventy years after they were written.
