In the past century and particularly the past few decades, technology has advanced rapidly, changing our economies and societies. The progression of governance in much of the democratic world doesn't reflect this degree of advance. Much like in times of autocratic rule that preceded the democratic revolutions, the power of rule today is highly concentrated.
Social Capitalism reviews economic and social crises in modern history, and makes a case that today's political based power and its structure is deeply flawed, and does poorly at representing the people and working towards their benefit. Such flaws include a failing system of checks and balances in the world's leading economic power and other leading democracies.
Political reforms without the awareness of economic realities have also had poor outcomes; Communism is one example. Socialism and Capitalism also have imbalances that should be addressed. One century ago, the Second Industrial Revolution greatly raised productivity through mass production, yet purchasing power of society as a whole did not correspondingly grow, leading to a case of imbalance and crisis. This past century has seen a series of episodes of economic challenge. What reforms can be made to aid or prevent such crises? The book hopes to inspire discussion and thought into reforms of economy and governance.
