The first story in a gripping new thriller series focusing on FBI Special Agent Riley Greaves. Riley finds herself being drawn into the manhunt for a sadistic killer after assisting the local sheriff after a body has been found, the victim having been buried alive. The only clue alongside him is a video camera with someone else's confession recording. The case leads her to New York where she needs to work with two top detectives of the NYPD after they are presented with the latest victim. Her body was left mutilated and placed in a neighborhood park. While trying to track down the killer without drawing a panic in the city, things take a turn for the unexpected. The city becomes very aware of the threat they face after the team find that the killer is live-streaming his current event to the world. This starts a countdown where they need to try and track the location of the stream before the killer begins to broadcast his next murder. Riley needs to focus on the mission but struggles while being away from her home. She hasn't left her hometown since she moved back to help care for her father who had developed dementia. His situation was not improving and the fear of not being near him if he were to die was stuck in her mind. She was off at college when her mom died and she never forgave herself for not ignoring suggestions and coming home when her mom fell ill.
