The "blue" represents an evolution of the "Green": while the green economy asks companies to invest resources in reducing the environmental impact, the blue economy intends to completely eliminate emissions harmful to the planet, revolutionizing production systems through biomimicry. With many similarities to the 'Green Economy', the 'bluer model' aims to improve life as a whole, including social aspects such as social equity, along with reducing ecological risks and fueling the economy through sustainable ways, for the good of the present but also future generations. The European Union introduced the term 'blue growth' in 2012, focusing on economic revitalization, marine industrial activities, sustainable energy, marine tourism, fisheries and aquaculture. In addition to traditional activities, the marine / ocean information and science sectors are strengthening their roles and increasing their contribution to the development of the blue economy. The key to this radical change is to evolve from a core business based on core competency to a portfolio of assets that generate multiple benefits for business, society and put nature back on its evolutionary and symbiotic path. As long as business executives wish to pursue economies of scale, based on standardized products, guaranteed worldwide through just-in-time delivery and outsourcing where labor productivity is the key to success, the unemployment rate will continue to rise while the majority part of the population is excluded. However, if the business model evolves towards making full use of all its available resources, bundles activities and moves to higher levels of efficiency, then a new model emerges. The Blue Economy can be seen as a policy, a project, a framework, a system and an idea. It has the potential to become one of the most viral ideas, from business applications to cultural and environmental extensions. It is an idea that can also become a way of thinking, a way of acting and a way to plan a better future for the generations to come and the planet they will live on.
