  • Description:

The book deals with the current methods of social work, in the field, with socially disadvantaged families and the social policy necessary to support the social fabric in a historical context of crisis in terms of the possibility of employment. It addresses the help system provided to such families and the motivation of such families for an important change in their personal family life as well as for their adoption of behavioral models compatible with the values of the majority society. The initial part describes social work in the field: its history, its current form and its patterns, followed by social counseling and social activation services for families with children. The following chapter focuses on families in crisis. It addresses the institution of the family as such and refers to the state social policy aimed at families, working with families and the support provided to families. The chapter is also aimed at families with neglected children to whom carers are dedicated. The third chapter describes the different aid system present in the various EU states and the types of services provided to families, and compares the prevailing community system with foreign systems. The last chapter of the first part concerns the education of adults from socially disadvantaged families. It describes the education of risk groups - fields of education and client motivation for education, as well as participating organizations, and also mentions a worker's burnout syndrome associated with such work. The second part describes and analyzes the research conducted with the qualitative method of examining the data collected through semi-structured interviews in the sample state. The interviews took place in families where social assistance and counseling activities were carried out in the field. Interviews with members of such families indicate the importance of cooperation with welfare organizations and social workers in general. The contact and collaboration of socially disadvantaged families with workers can help motivate family members to change their current situation. The questions asked also concerned the factors that influence the motivation for a change in the current situation. The book can help understand members of families in crisis, as it provides information on their motivation for change through factors that influence motivation, and can help realize the importance of caring professions cooperation with such families; it also provides a series of elements that prove the need for an evolution of the state that knows how to implement policies to support people while waiting for the transformation process of the employment market to take place.
