    Title:

Relapse Prevention for African Americans Revised 2021

    Pages:

    192

    Format:

    Paperback

  • Description:

This workbook is designed to assist African Americans seeking recovery from chemical dependency. It is intended to increase the quality of recovery and help avoid relapse due to race-re-lated issues. Many black addicts and alcoholics don’t stay clean, and the relapse rate is substan¬tially higher than it needs to be. This workbook will lead the reader through a series of clinical exercises designed to improve insight and help create a more solid recovery experience. I will focus on issues that will promote healing in areas where many of us African Americans are deeply wounded. Some of the exercises will be simple and fun; others may be more challenging and painful. I know from personal and professional experience that we have many relapse warning signs that are related to race and culture. It is unfortunate that most of us never get to fully explore these warning signs in treatment programs and support groups. In this workbook, we will review a list of 25 Relapse Warning Signs for African Americans, which includes three newly added warning signs. This is an opportunity for black addicts and alcoholics to reflect and pro¬cess some of the deep-rooted issues like internal racism, low self-esteem, victimization, entitle¬ment, and distrust that can sabotage our attempts at recovery.
